Over 15,000 people attend the Beijing Pizza Fest annually, where vendors feed the masses slices their finest creations, from the classic Margherita to more zany local flavors such as Durian Pizza, to east-meets-west hybrids such baozi-shaped pizzas and traditional Chinese jianbing stuffed with cheese and tomato sauce.
Pizza-loving expats turn out in droves for the event, though the vast majority of attendees are local Chinese that have adopted pizza as one of their go-to comfort dishes.
Shanghai is home to over 3,000 restaurants that serve pizza, indicating that the Pearl of the Orient is crazy for pizza too.
