Abstract
In this presentation, experiences in aerospace computing in our research group are to be reviewed. Some typical applications in flight vehicle design and analysis, and typical researches on turbomachinery and propulsion systems, are to be addressed. Our computations are carried out on the top of a high-end digital prototyping system, including pre- and post-processing approaches, structural analysis, aerodynamic analysis, combustion analysis, and other modules.
Digital prototyping is the technology utilizing computer models to replace real physical prototyping, which is widely used in almost all modern manufacturing fields, especially in the aerospace field. Nowadays the focus of digital prototyping technology is shifting to complex and accurate numerical performance analysis and automatic optimization design, which heavily depends on many cutting-edge technologies, such as high-efficiency and high-precision numerical methods, ultra-large-scale numerical simulation, automated pre- and post-processing approaches, and innovative human machine interfaces.
In the area of flight vehicle design and analysis, aerodynamics for reusable aerospace transportation systems refers to some important scientific problems, related to chemical and heat imbalance, aerodynamic heat and protection, radiation heating, combustion, unsteady aerodynamics, and so on. For turbomachinery and propulsion systems, a challenging activity is full engine simulation, which is on-going research work carried out in our group. An aero-engine could be broken up into components: a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine. Simulation on each component used to run to convergence in series.
Key words: aerospace computing; flight vehicle; turbomachinery and propulsion system; structural analysis; aerodynamic analysis; combustion analysis; mesh generation; visualization
