Golden Macadamias was founded with humble beginnings when a group of South G African macadamia farmers decided to process and market their own crop in the year 2000. By that time, it was clear that a more integrated supply chain would hold signicant benets for all stakeholders. Customers desired a guaranteed supply of quality macadamia nuts with more dependable traceability, while farmers required a stable and sustainable return to justify the long term investments in new orchards.
Golden Macadamias has been built on the foundations of integrity, excellence, diligence, accountability and respect, and has since become one of the largest processors and suppliers of Macadamia nuts in the world.
The removal of moisture from the macadamia nut after harvesting is key in preserving quality and extending shelf life. Golden Macadamias strictly controls this process and nuts are cured at a very specic temperature and humidity, compared to most other suppliers which dry the nuts at a high temperature for a short time, which may cause signicant damage to the kernel.
After curing, the hard shell of the macadamia nut is mechanically cracked by specialized technology. The separation of shell pieces from the valuable kernel is one of the major challenges in macadamia processing. Golden Macadamias have invested heavily in a series of mechanical shaking, aspirating, colour sorting and laser sorting technologies to achieve this. During every step the quality of the kernel is monitored using a PLC-integrated system which highlights any and all defects in real-time.
