On June 16, 2018, the 8th International Macadamia Symposium’s Press Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. Zhao Guixiang, Deputy Mayor of People's Government of Lincang City, Xie Hui, Deputy Director of Department of Forestry of Yunnan Province, and Chen Yuxiu, President of Yunnan Macadamia Society attended the conference.

Zhao Guixiang, Deputy Mayor of People's Government of Lincang City introduced the preparatory work of the 8th International Macadamia Symposium to the present reporters. He said that the 8th International Macadamia Symposium will be held in Lincang city on Oct. 17-19, 2018. With the theme of “Green, Hope, Health and Sharing’, the symposium will hold nearly 50 seminars about the industry situation of main producing countries, the seedling technique, orchard management, pest control, picking and processing, food safety, the market supply and demand, international cooperation and other aspects. There will be more than 60 world's top macadamia experts, scholars and entrepreneurs to share the latest scientific researches and management technologies in three years at this symposium.

In recent years, China's macadamia industry has achieved worldwide success. Data from the Yunnan Tropical Plant Research Institute showed that, cultivated area of macadamia in China has reached 2.4 million mu, 61.05% of the world total area of the macadamia planting, ranking the first in the world with high quality. Macadamia in China market, meanwhile, reached annual per capita consumption 3g only, far behind the international average per capita of 16g per year. The huge market potential and planting scale enable China to become the world's largest consumer and major raw material producing country. This is the new business opportunities and impetus brought by the hosting city, Lincang, Yunnan, to the 8th International Macadamia Symposium.

The Organizing Committee said, nuts peers from more than 20 countries and regions in the world were attracted to participate this symposium. The Macadamia Associations of Australia, South Africa, Brazil and Vietnam and International Nut & Dried Fruit council (INC) will send delegations to the symposium. Australia giant companies Macadamia Processing Company (MPC), Macadamia Marketing International (MMI), South Africa enterprise Golden Macadamia (GOLDEN) will be a delegation. Three big domestic famous enterprises QiaQia Foods, Three Squirrels and Yunnan Macadamias became platinum sponsors of the symposium. At the same time, Michael Waring, Vice Chairman of International Nut & Dried Fruit council (INC), Larry McHugh, CEO of Macadamia Marketing International (MMI), Werner Barnard, CEO of Golden Macadamia (GOLDEN), Zhang Liaoyuan, Chairman of Three Squirrels will deliver speeches. As of June 10, 308 people had registered for the symposium.

This international macadamia symposium will be held in China for the first time with the largest number of participants and speakers; also the coverage have reached the highest level in all previous congresses.
