Shanghai leads in AI calculation
Shanghai's excellent AI calculation capacity is due to a rich talent pool, demand for data processing and increased investment, an industry report has said.
Calculation capacity is one of the most important aspects of AI performance and includes chips, servers, devices and platforms.
Beijing, Guangzhong, Hangzhou and Shenzhen are also among the first tier of calculation capacity. Chongqing, Hefei, Nanjing, Suzhou and Xi’an form the second level, according to a report by US-based IT research firm IDC and Inspur, China’s top provider of cloud computing infrastructure solutions.
Shanghai's academic resources are rich at Fudan, Jiao Tong and Tongji universities. One-third of China’s AI professionals are in Shanghai with more than 1,000 AI firms and 3,000 pan-AI firms.
Seeing the potential, Alibaba, Baidu, iFlytek, Tencent and DeepBlue have plans to set up new AI facilities in the city. Microsoft and Amazon AWS have already opened new centers in Shanghai.
