School Counselor Certification Programme

A dedicated program for school counselors for college counseling and career readiness

The School Counselor Certification is a community-driven program established by ACT Global Solutions, Cialfo Pte Ltd, TopSchools, and a network of counselors to equip and certify school counselors, with the essential skills and knowledge to provide career and college guidance to their students. 


Date:  30th April 2020 to 29th June 2020

Format: Online Training (1 mandatory lesson per week)

Who can apply: School counselors or staff member of a school ONLY; Suitable for counselors or staff with 1-3years of counseling experience

Key Objectives 

  1. To equip and certify school counselors of various academic systems and level of experiences with essential skills and knowledge

  2. Allow veteran and respected international and local school counselors to share contextualized experiences

  3. Provide essential resources and materials for creating a basic counseling curriculum

What you will obtain?

 Graduation requirement 

Fulfillment of the completion requirements of at least 6 out of the 8 Mandatory Sessions

    Wang, Shi (Shiny) serves as the Assistant to Principal at Tsinghua University High School and Director of College Counseling, Academic Consultant of Tsinglan School, former Vice Principal of Beijing Kaiwen Academy. Member of NACAC & InternationalACAC, (PD Committee member), Member of International Advisory Committee of the College Board, Winner of “Outstanding Contribution Award” from United States Department of States(Education USA), Special Advisor of United States Department of States(Education USA), Secretary-General of Beijing Academy for College Counseling. He is a residential staff of the College Board Summer Institute of College Counseling at NYU Shanghai. Founding member of ChinaICAC, and member of the international advisor board at IE in Spain. He is one of the first professional counselors at a Chinese public-school offering college admission counseling for students and has more than 15 years of counseling experience as well as more than 20 years of teaching in China’s famous secondary schools. He has been invited to present at many professional conferences, events, forums in and out of China, such as International ACAC annual conference, Sina, Tencent and so on. Shiny has also published articles on China's international education in major media including the New York Times.

    John Liu is in his seventh year at YCIS. Before joining YCIS, John was the Director of College Counselling and Student Support in Taiwan for four years, and as the Dean of Students in a New York City public magnet school for seven years. John has an M.Ed in Private School Leadership, and an M.A. in Educational Policy and Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an M.A. in Secondary Social Studies Education from CUNY, Lehman.

    Bryce Benton is currently the Associate Director of Admission, and Coordinator of International Admission at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Prior to coming to Denison in his home state of Ohio three years ago, he managed the admission of international students at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and he has 10 years of experience working with international students applying to US colleges and universities. He also serves on the CIS (Council of International Schools) Committee on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the International ACAC Finance Committee, and the Cialfo University Advisory Board. 
  • Assistant of School Vice Principal and Director of College Counseling Office, Ningbo Foreign Language School in southeastern China
    Ms. Cheng Xiaofeng (Della), is Assistant of School Vice Principal and Director of College Counseling Office of Ningbo Foreign Language School in southeastern China. As a member of IACAC, NACAC, CIS and CIS EARCOS, Della has immersed herself in the profession of college counseling and education management, particularly in international programs of China’s public high schools, for over 15 years. She has participated in International ACAC since 2012 and now works as the committee member for Mentor Committee, the committee of Events & Communication of China Institute of College Admission Counseling, and recently she is selected to be a member of International Advisory Committee of the Collegeboard. She has been invited to speak in many national and international conferences, including AP China Summit, ISCS by TopSchool, CIS Forum, CIS-EARCOS, and Sino-US Education Symposium. With 27 AP subjects combined with the reformed Xuekao Chinese high school curriculum, NBFLS is currently running the most comprehensive AP program as well as a school-based counseling program in China.
  • Co-Director of College Counseling, Keystone Academy
    Percy Jiang, has served as Co-Director of College Counseling at Keystone since 2016. He has helped to start the college counseling project and build a professional counseling team with his expertise and resources. Percy has been actively involved in college counseling and has maintained a professional connection with many prestigious universities in the U.S. plus some other countries. His credentials include membership of National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and International ACAC. Percy served as a faculty member and member of the Executive Board of International ACAC, and has been deeply connected to and much respected within professional organizations. Percy is one of the initial founders of China Institute of College Admission Counseling (China ICAC). Invited by the EducationUSA China Office, he helped train local college counselors. Prior to his tenure Keystone, Percy Jiang worked at a top public high school in Beijing for 15 years.

    Ms. Deng, Ning has been the Director of College Counseling Office of several prestigious international programs in China, including, Vanke Meisha Academy, Peking University High school, Beijing No. 35 High School etc. She is a member of Advocacy & Outreach Committee of International ACAC since July of 2018. She is also a fellow of “Inviting Visitor Leadership Program” selected by the US Department of States in 2016. Ning has won the “Best Contribution Award” given by EducationUSA in 2017. Ms. Deng holds College Counseling & Career Planning Certificates from UCLA and UC Berkley and is certified Strength Development Coach by Gallup. She is an active guest speaker of education forum, college counselor trainings, including the “Town Hall” webinar for IACAC, 2020; “Round Table Discussion” with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs, 2019. She is an experienced college counseling office engineer through 10 years of professional development and pioneer of college counseling profession in China. She has advised students with diverse backgrounds on getting offers from prestigious universities and with multiple millions of scholarships.

    Frances Nan Zhang is the Assistant to President/ Dean of College Counseling & Financial Aid of WLSA Shanghai Academy. She also held positions in the Faculty of College Board Summer Institute in NYU Shanghai, Faculty of International ACAC Pre-conference, a Member of International ACAC Committees (Membership, Chat, Admissions Practice), and Presented in NACAC, International ACAC, College Board Conferences to advocate for Chinese students.
  • Chief Strategy Officer, the Affiliated High School of Peking University’s Education Group
    Ms. Aileen Lee is the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at the Affiliated High School of Peking University’s Education Group which supports 12 campuses across China. Aileen previously served as Deputy Head of School (Strategic Management and Operations) at The Affiliated High School of Peking University’s Dalton Academy, in addition to Director of College Counseling, Head of Admissions & Development. During her six years in Beijing, Aileen was able to initiate the Beijing Western Consortium to assist college counselors in working together across the city, sharing resources to better support the differing school communities. Aileen’s experience fundraising with Diabetes Canada and The Heart & Stroke Foundation afforded her a position in Toronto at York University’s advancement department. Although her background is in Human Resources Management, pushing the boundaries of education reform and progressive educational leadership is her true passion and calling. China is the sixth country that Aileen has lived in and is definitely not the last stop in her international career tour.

    Francis Miller is a full-time director of college counseling and foreign teacher at Xi’an Tie Yi High School in Shaanxi Province, China. He is also a member of the International ACAC and serves on the International ACAC Membership Committee. He is also a member of ChinaICAC and serves on the ChinaICAC Professional Development Committee. He is also Citizen Liaison Volunteer in Xi’an for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. He studied the Chinese language at Tsinghua University in IUP as a Foreign Language Area Studies fellow supported by the U.S. Department of Education. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

    Reon Sines-Sheaff currently serves as the Director of International Admissions at the College of Wooster.  She has worked in International Admissions in universities in the United States for the last 15 years and is committed to making the admissions process more transparent and accessible for students from around the world. Reon has been an active advocate for liberal arts education and spoke in conferences such as International ACAC and China ICAC.

    Carolyn Barr has been responsible for international marketing and recruitment for prospective bachelor and master students at Leiden University since 2013. Prior to that she has worked for both British and American universities. Understanding the different educational systems and needs of students world-wide is a passion for her.  Leiden University is a part of the Dutch Research Universities Consortium and works very closely with many other institutions across the country, including Nuffic, the office for higher education in the Netherlands. Originally from Canada, Carolyn has lived and worked in the Netherlands since 2005.

    Monique Yang is committed to student recruitment in China. She has been in the field of international admissions for over 10 years since graduating from a Japanese university. Being a multilingual counselor, helps her to better connect and understand the needs of students from different cultural backgrounds, especially with those Chinese students seeking a bachelor’s degree overseas. Monique is currently working as an international officer with the University of Exeter, a member of the Russell Group.

    Jennifer serves as the Director of Education Partnerships at Cialfo and has been in the education field for over 20 years. She has served as a teacher and counselor in the United States, UAE, China, Philippines, and Thailand. Jennifer has been highly engaged in the college counseling profession through roles with the CIS/EARCOS Institute on Higher Education, The George Washington University’s Counselor Advisory Board, as a NACAC Assembly Delegate for the International ACAC Executive Board, and growing networks of counselors in each region. Most recently before joining Cialfo, Jennifer was a College Counselor at International School Bangkok where she helped her team transition to Cialfo in 2018.

    Tim is a former international school counselor and teacher, having worked in the US, China, the UAE, and Poland. He served as the School Counselor Representative for Europe, Middle East and Africa Committee for CIS (Council for International School) between 2015-2020, and furthermore as a Communications Committee member of International ACAC between 2012-2014. Prior to joining Cialfo, Tim was a High School Counselor at American School of Warsaw for over 4 years, and at the American Community School of Abu Dhabi for close to 7 years. He grew up as a Third Culture Kid living in Japan and Malaysia. He is the proud father of a current university freshman.
