This workshop will provide a platform for the international experts and the participants to discuss advanced carbon nanomaterials of energetic materials. Advanced carbon nanomaterials are widely used in aviation, aerospace, energy, medical treatment, et al. In energetic materials field, the advanced carbon nanomaterials are important matter for enhance performance and decrease sensitivity. This forum is mainly about the new technology and development of advanced carbon nanomaterials in energetic materials by international experts.


Topics will include:

(1) The progress and trend of advanced carbon nanomaterials of energetic materials.

(2) The Research on Nano-carbon-based high-energy materials.

(3) The research of Graphene for propellant by molecular reaction dynamic and experiment.

(4) The research on expanded graphite for solid propellant.

(5) Advanced Hybridized Carbyne-Based Functional Nanomaterials for Defence Applications.

Fu Xiaolong,Professor at Xi 'an Modern Chemistry Research Institute

Fu Xiaolong is Professor at Xi 'an Modern Chemistry Research Institute. He was selected into the "Youth Talent Training Program" of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited. Also, he was selected into the "Top Young Talents" for high-level Talents in Shaanxi Province. He learned as a Visiting Scholar at University of Kassel, Germany. He obtained Postdoctoral from Shaanxi Normal University. 

Dr. Fu is Young editorial committee of Chinese Journal of Explosives and Propellants; Special English reviewer of Chinese Journal of Explosives and Propellants; Young editorial Committee of Journal of Ordnance Equipment Engineering; Member of the China Ordnance Society and the Chinese Chemical Society.

Dr. Fu is responsible for The National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Postdoctoral Foundation, the Special Support Plan project of Shaanxi Province and other projects. He published more than 70 papers, edited a book, and more than 50 patents. He won one first prize and two second prizes of science and technology progress of China North Industries Group.

Dr. Fu's main research interest and expertise are in advanced carbon materials, molecular dynamics simulation, thermal decomposition, combustion mechanism.

Dr. Fu is the reviewer of Defence Technology、Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry、Molecular Simulation、ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces、Chinese Journal of Explosives and Propellants、Journal of Ordnance Equipment Engineering。

    Alon Gany is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. He was the holder of the Fohrman Chair in Aeronautical Engineering and the Head of the Fine Rocket Propulsion Center for 18 years. Alon Gany received his BSc, MSc, and Doctoral degrees from the Technion. He spent a few years at Princeton University as a Post Doc Fellow and as a Visiting Professor, and another year as an NRC Senior Research Fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School, USA. Alon Gany is Foreign Member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE); Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA); Honorary Fellow of the High Energy Materials Society of India (HEMSI) and the Australian Institute of Energetic Materials (AIHEM); Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA); and Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Combustion Institute, the International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE), and Israel Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Prof. Gany has supervised about 100 Doctoral and Masters Students. He has been recognized as Technion’s Permanent Distinguished Lecturer and has won many awards for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Alon Gany has over 130 refereed journal publications, 19 book chapters, some 20 registered patents worldwide, and more than 400 papers and presentations in professional conferences, including many invited, plenary, and keynote lectures. Prof. Gany's main research interest and expertise are in propulsion, energetic materials, combustion, clean energy, and related areas.

    Dr Alexander Lukin is Expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Expert of Federal Register of Experts of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in the area of Space and Transport Systems, Honorary Fellow and Chair of the Research Sub-committee of the Academic Council of the Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials (Sippy Downs, Australia). Dr. Lukin is Associate Fellow and Lifetime Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), International Member of the AIAA Solid Rockets Technical Committee (SRTC); Member of the AIAA United Nations Committee On Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN-COPUOS) Working Group (WG); Member of the International Advisory Committee of the State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials (SKLFPM) in Donghua University, Shanghai, China; Professor-Advisor of the Shaanxi Research Institute of Applied Physics-Chemistry, China; Academic Consultant of the North-Western Polytechnic University, China. Dr. Lukin's areas of research interest are in theoretical modeling and numerical simulation of combustion processes of the energetic materials; advanced propulsion materials; solid propulsion systems; ignition and combustion of propellants for space and rocket propulsion; unstable and abnormal combustion of the energetic materials; microscale combustion mechanisms; throttle control of solid propulsion systems; nanotechnologies; functional nanomaterials; carbon-based nano-materials;micro-cymatics. For the past 30 years, Dr. Lukin has been engaged in investigating the challenging problem of combustion instability in solid propulsion systems. Dr. Lukin has made a notable contribution to the advancement of next-generation controllable solid propulsion systems through the development of innovative concepts and strategies that lead to more precise thrust control and extreme thrust control enhancement.

    Prof. Michael Gozin is a Faculty Member at the School of Chemistry, Faculty of Exact Sciences, Tel Aviv University, Israel. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1988) and completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Organometallic Chemistry (1995) from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. Prof. Gozin had few industrial R&D positions, working as a Research Scientist at the PeproTech Inc. (New Jersey, USA) and as a Principal Scientist at the Clinical Micro-Sensors Inc. (California, USA). He then moved back to Israel to a Visiting Scholar position at the Hebrew University, followed by an Assistant Professor position at the Tel Aviv University (2001). Prof. Gozin current research interests are focused on the development of new energetic materials and nanomaterials, propellants, and ignition systems. He published more than 90 papers in peer-review journals, edited a book, and has 19 patents and patent applications. Prof. Gozin has h-index of 28 (by Scopus) and 3,000 citations of his work. For few years, Prof. Gozin had a position of a Chairman of the National Committee in Chemistry and Materials of the Israeli National Institute of Standards. He is currently serving as a Member of the International Scientific Advisory Board of the New Trends in Research of Energetic Materials Conferences, a Member of the Editorial Board of the Chinese Journal of Explosives and Propellants, a Consulting Editor of the Defence Technology journal and Editor-in-Chief of the Energetic Materials Frontiers journal. Prof. Gozin had Visiting Professor positions at several universities, including Stanford University (USA) and Dresden University of Technology (Germany).

Research interests: nanotechnology, mechanism and kinetics of combustion of hydrocarbons, soot formation in combustion processes, explosive and energy-intensive materials, processing of heavy hydrocarbon raw materials.

    Karl Rink received his B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Minnesota in 1983, his M.S. degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 1986, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1994. Karl was first employed by Solar Turbines Inc. where he was responsible for the design, development and testing of gas turbine combustion systems and components. Dr. Rink was then employed by Autoliv in Ogden, Utah where his work in automotive airbag technology led to over 50 U.S. patents, many of which entered high-volume production, and one received the internationally-recognized 2000 PACE award for outstanding innovation in automotive technology. During the period from 2001 to 2011, Dr. Rink served as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho where he taught a wide range of classes including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, gas dynamics and continuum mechanics. Subsequently he served as the Vice President of Engineering and Development at Infinia in Ogden, Utah. In this role, Dr. Rink worked to help launch the world’s largest solar powered Stirling engine installation. He also led efforts to develop a Stirling-based mobile generator and directed demonstration of the first hybrid solar/liquid-fueled Stirling engine based mobile generator incorporating molten salt phase-change energy storage capability. Dr. Rink is currently an adjunct Professor at the University of Idaho, a technical advisor for Nippon Kayaku and he is also President of Rink International, LLC which provides krypton-85 leak detection services and associated analysis to manufacturers of microelectronics, energetic materials and other technologies. Dr. Rink is active in numerous technical societies and international conferences including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the International Ballistics Society (IBS), the International Pyrotechnic Society (IPS), New Trends in the Research of Energetic Materials (NTREM), and the International Autumn Seminar on Propellants, Explosives, and Pyrotechnics (IASPEP). Dr. Rink was named an Outstanding Mechanical Engineer by Purdue University in 2000 and was honored as an Associate Fellow of AIAA in 2007.
