Tangshan is one of China's important centers of the coal and steel industry and a leading industrial city in the Chinese capital region. Of the 8 million inhabitants, 3 million live in the inner-city area. The city is located in the northeast of Hebei Province and has excellent transport links. Beijing, 130 km away, can be reached by high-speed train. Tangshan is an important hub on the New Silk Road. It has a national airport and is also connected to the intercontinental train service to Germany. On a provincial scale, Tangshan ranks first (over 20%) with a GDP of over 120 billion euros, and 27th in an intra-Chinese comparison. Tangshan has rich natural resources, including coal, ore and oil and gas deposits.

In recent years, not only have the traditional sectors of heavy industry been modernized significantly as part of the structural change, but new future technologies have also been developed and expanded in a targeted manner. The following industries play a decisive role in Tangshan's economy today: robotics and welding technology, high end equipment production, vehicle construction and railway technology.

Of particular importance is the deep-sea port of Caofeidian, located 50 km south of the city on Bohai Bay, one of the ten largest ports in China and most important transshipment hubs.

1. CRRC Tangshan Company 中车唐山机车车辆有限公司

CRRC Tangshan Company, originally established in 1881, emerged alongside the construction of China's first railway, the Tangshan-Xuge Railway, during the late Qing Dynasty's Westernization Movement. It stands as the birthplace of China's rail transportation industry, marking the genesis of China's railway development and the beginning of CRRC (China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation). It was at this location that the first steam locomotive in China, known as the "China Rocket," was manufactured, as well as the first imperial passenger car, named the "Imperial Carriage." Furthermore, China's inaugural high-speed train capable of reaching speeds of 350 kilometers per hour was produced and manufactured here.

CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd. is primarily engaged in the research and development, manufacturing, maintenance, and service of rail transit equipment, as well as diversified industries such as digital industrialization, new materials, smart energy, electromechanical engineering, and environmental protection. The company has four subsidiaries abroad, two wholly owned subsidiaries, six holding subsidiaries, and six joint-stock. subsidiaries. It possesses three major manufacturing bases in Tangshan, Tianjin, and Quanzhou, covering a total area of over 988 acres, with nearly ten thousand employees. 2. Baichuan Intelligent Machine 唐山百川智能机器股份有限公司

Baichuan Intelligent Machine Co., reliable support for the safety of rail transit operations. It is a leading player in the industry and one of the top providers of robotic equipment for the maintenance and testing of rail transit locomotives and vehicles. The company's products cover equipment for maintenance, testing, and safety operation control of rail transit locomotives and vehicles. Additionally, Baichuan engages in research and development related to advanced technologies such as smart city construction, intelligent maintenance, the Internet of Things, and big data applications. These products have been successfully applied in major domestic rail transit fields, including all 18 local railway bureaus under China National Railway Group, urban rail transit projects in 43 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, as well as local railways and locomotive manufactures. In terms of international exports, relying on independent intellectual property rights and a good reputation, products and services have been adopted in projects in countries such as Singapore's urban rail transit, Israel, Kenya, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan. Baichuan places high importance on building its technological innovation capability. It has established five research and development institutions and employs over 1000 professional technicians. The company has also participated in the formulation of seven national railway industry standards.

3. CITIC Heavy Industries Kaicheng Intelligent Equipment 中信重工凯程智能装备有限公司

Founded in 1991, CITIC Heavy Industries Kaicheng Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. is a leading domestic intelligent equipment manufacturing enterprise integrating R&D, production, sales, and service. Since its establishment, the company has always insisted on independent innovation, using innovative robotics and intelligent technology to empower the transformation, and upgrading of various industries and the high-quality development of social economy. The company has more than 130 products in two industries: "special robots and intelligent equipment for coal mines". The products are used in emergency rescue, intelligent mining, petrochemical, coal chemical, smelting, gas, public transportation, urban construction, national defense modernization and many other fields. For the new situation of emergency rescue, the company has developed more than 30 models of fire-fighting robots, which are widely installed in the national fire-fighting system and hazardous chemical enterprises, replacing firefighters to participate in firefighting for nearly 1,000 times, and gradually becoming an indispensable scientific and technological force in daily rescue. 4. Shougang Jingtang 首钢京唐公司

In order to successfully host the 2008 Beijing Olympics and implement the overall urban plan for Beijing, in 2005, the National Development and Reform Commission formally approved the relocation, structural adjustment, and environmental improvement plan for Shougang Group. It allowed Shougang to construct a modern large-scale steel enterprise in Caofeidian, Tangshan, Hebei Province, fully designed and built in accordance with the principles of circular economy. This new facility, located by the sea and close to a port, is an internationally advanced, mega-tonnage steel enterprise. Shougang Jingtang overall process equipment has reached a world-class level in the 21st century, becoming a demonstration factory of high-quality plate production with international advanced standards and independent innovation. It stands as a hallmark of energy-saving, emission reduction, and circular economic development.

The company produces 13.47 million tons of iron, 13.7 million tons of steel, and 13.41 million tons of steel products annually. It boasts characteristics and advantages like being situated by the sea and port, compact process layout, large-scale equipment, advanced technology, high-end products, circular economy, environmental cleanliness, and efficient management. These features fully reflect the construction objectives. For example, its coastal location and proximity to the port significantly reduce transportation costs. The adoption of large-scale equipment, such as a 5,500 cubic meter blast furnace, a 300-ton converter, a 2,250mm hot rolling mill, and a 2,230mm cold rolling mill, forms an efficient, low-cost production operation system. The MCCR production line, high-strength acid pickling line, high-strength galvanizing line, hot-based galvanizing line, and eighteen-stand single-frame rolling mill have all rapidly increased production capacities, forming a new product cluster led by ultra-high-strength steel and precision punching steel. The manufacturing system of Jingtang Company is more complete, providing the confidence and foundation for high-quality development.

5. Tangshan SanYou Chemical Industry 唐山三友化工股份有限公司

Tangshan Sanyou Chemical Industry Co., LTD., founded on December 28, 1999, is located in Caofeidian District, Tangshan City on the shore of the Bohai Sea, with convenient transportation and obvious location advantages. It is the key chemical backbone enterprise in Hebei Province, and a well-known enterprise in the national soda and chemical fiber industries. The main products are soda ash, viscose staple fiber, caustic soda, PVC, silicone. The company has developed from a single soda ash business at the beginning of its establishment into a group enterprise with the characteristic circular economy model of "two alkali and one chemical" (soda ash, chlor-alkali, chemical fiber), and has realized the transformation and upgrading from inorganic chemical industry to organic chemical industry and from basic chemical industry to fine chemical industry. Products are exported to Asia, Africa, Europe, the United States, Australia five continents more than 100 countries and regions.
