Ma Jun (Dr.Ma) is the founder and CEO of Sinsegye.
Dr. Ma holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Institute of Computing, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has conducted postdoctoral research at Tsinghua University and served as a visiting scholar at Duke University. Dr. Ma has a long-standing involvement in the fields of artificial intelligence, edge computing, machine learning, operating systems, and industrial intelligence. He has worked as a data scientist at China Petroleum's Eastern Geophysical Company and as an algorithm expert at Alibaba's DAMO Academy. Sinsegye has been honored with accolades such as "WISE2023 Future Business Potential King" by 36Kr, "2023 Entrepreneurship State 100 Future Unicorns" by Chuangye Bang, and recognition in "2023 Venture50" Hard Technology Ranking by Investment Realm.
Dr. Ma is a serial entrepreneur who has founded a B2C e-commerce company and an industrial AI sensor company, attracting investments from BV Capital, Sequoia Capital, and others venture capital . In August 2022, he founded Sinsegye and successfully completed five rounds of funding within a year, raising close to 400 million and surpassing a valuation of over 1 billion. This accomplishment disrupted the traditional perception of slow and challenging industrial sector funding, garnering support from various institutions including Cowin Capital, Sequoia Capital, Lenovo Capital and others.
Sinsegye, as a representative of computerized automation, has contributed two core foundational software components to the Chinese industrial system: the dual-domain operating system and IDE (industrial software programming platform). The company offers a flexible product portfolio guided by PCs, with Automation at its core and complemented by IO/Motion. This innovation breaks the long-standing monopoly of foreign brands like Siemens, Omron, and B&R in the industrial automation sector, laying a solid foundation for the intelligent industrial development of China.
Dr. Kai Zang serves as the Chairman and CEO of ADAPS Photonics. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and is recognized as a Shenzhen High-Level Overseas Talent, as well as a national-level entrepreneurial talent under China’s Qiming Program. Dr. Zang completed his undergraduate studies at Peking University and conducted his doctoral research at Stanford University from 2011 to 2017 under the guidance of Professor James Harris, a distinguished member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. His research focused on the design, simulation, and modeling of semiconductor devices and integrated optoelectronic systems, particularly in the areas of Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs) and 3D imaging systems and algorithms. Dr. Zang holds four U.S. patents and eleven domestic patents and has published 41 academic papers, with 14 of these receiving high citation counts.
In June 2018, Dr. Zang returned to China to establish ADAPS Photonics, where he formed a world-class R&D team. Since securing first place in the electronics and information sector at the 8th China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2019, ADAPS Photonics has garnered multiple prestigious accolades, including recognition as a National High-Tech Enterprise, a Shenzhen High-Level Overseas Talent Team, and a National "Specialized and New" Little Giant Enterprise. To date, ADAPS Photonics has raised over RMB 500 million, with a current valuation of RMB 2.3 billion.
Under Dr. Zang's visionary leadership, ADAPS Photonics has become the preeminent designer of single-photon detector chips in China, achieving several groundbreaking milestones on both the domestic and international stages. These include setting a global record for absorption efficiency in mass-produced CMOS SPADs, launching China’s first 3D stacked SPAD imaging chip, and realizing the domestic mass production of vehicle-mounted LiDAR detector receivers. ADAPS Photonics has established itself as a leader in the SPAD and LiDAR sectors, driving forward the application of SPAD-based 3D imaging technologies in consumer electronics and automotive markets globally.
Anqi Yang joined FORTUNE China in September 2014 as Senior Editor. From 2013 to 2014, Yang worked as a senior reporter of 《Caijing》Magazine, a famous Chinese business media. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a senior reporter of 《Global Entrepreneur》Magazine, when he published 10 cover stories in four years. Before that, he also worked as a reporter of 《Beijing Business Today》from from 2008 to 2009. Yang Anqi graduated from China University of Mining and Technology, and majored in Urban Planning.
