About this event:

Join us for an engaging discussion about the global tech race centered on AI. Paul Triolo from DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group and Kaiser Kuo of the Sinica podcast will join Prof. Madeline Carr, Schwarzman College's Tencent Visiting Chair of Technology and Professor of Global Politics and Cyber Security at University College London to examine recent developments such as the release of DeepSeek and the ongoing contest for global leadership in AI.

Who can attend this event?

This signup is open to currently enrolled Tsinghua University students as well as faculty and staff currently employed by Tsinghua University. A valid student, staff, or faculty ID card from eith Tsinghua University is required for every attendee. We have 80 seats available for this session.

 

What is required to join this event?

All event guests must present a valid registration from this website (Bag Event 百格活动)as well as a valid Tsinghua University ID Card when entering Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University for this event. 

 

Entering and Exiting Schwarzman College

Registered attendees may enter Schwarzman College 30 minutes before the session begins. For this session, doors open at 5:00 pm. No attendees will be admitted after 6:00 pm.

 

Following the conclusion of this event at 6:30 pm, Schwarzman College's status as a dormitory means we must ask that all attendees who join us for the session as event guests exit the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this policy.

    Paul Triolo
    Partner at DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group

    Paul Triolo is a Partner at DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group, a founding member of DGA Group, and is based in Washington, D.C. As a member of the firm’s China practice and Technology Policy Lead, he advises clients in technology, financial services and other sectors as they navigate complex political and regulatory matters in China and around the world.


    A recognized expert in global technology policy, Mr. Triolo has worked closely with some of the world’s leading companies on AI, helping them track regulatory issues globally, develop long-term strategies on thought leadership and engage with regulators. Most recently, he was founder, Practice Head, and Managing Director of the Geo-Technology practice at Eurasia Group. Mr. Triolo spent more than 25 years in senior positions in the U.S. government, analyzing China’s rise as a technology power and advising senior policymakers on technology-related issues. Prior to his government work, he worked as an engineer for a semiconductor testing firm in Silicon Valley.


    Mr. Triolo is frequently quoted on technology policy issues in media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and the South China Morning Post among others. He speaks regularly at conferences and has authored many journal articles and book chapters on global technology policy and China-related issues. He also serves as a Senior Advisor at the Paulson Institute and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.


    Mr. Triolo received an M.A. in international relations from the Catholic University and a B.A. in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

    Madeline Carr is Professor of Global Politics and Cybersecurity at University College London. Her research focuses on the implications of emerging technology for national and global security, international order, and corporate governance. Professor Carr has published on cyber norms, multi-stakeholder Internet governance, the future of the insurance sector in the IoT, cybersecurity and international law, the public/private partnership in national cyber security strategies, and the ways in which boards approach cyber risk. Professor Carr is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Council on the Connected World where she chairs a cross-sectoral group working on the cybersecurity of the Internet of Things. She is also the Co- Director of an interdisciplinary Centre for Doctoral Training in Cybersecurity at UCL and Deputy Director of the UK wide REPHRAIN Protecting Citizens Online research hub. From 2018 – 2022, Professor Carr was the Director of the UK Research Institute for Sociotechnical Cyber Security. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). Board appointments include NED for Talion and the Advisory Board for the £70M Digital Secure by Design project.
