The Future of Commerce and Digital Economies in the Age of AI

As artificial intelligence accelerates at an unprecedented pace, large language models and agentic technologies are driving a new leap in productivity, fundamentally transforming business models and the structure of the digital economy. This inaugural lecture will open a conversation on "The Future of Commerce and Digital Economies in the Age of AI", exploring how frontier technologies are driving industrial innovation and a paradigm shift in the way we do business. The event is open to C10, Schwarzman Alumni, faculty and staff, and Tsinghua University faculty/students.


Who can attend this event?

This signup is open to currently enrolled Tsinghua and Peking University students as well as faculty and staff currently employed by Tsinghua or Peking University. A valid student ID card from Tsinghua or Peking University is required for every attendee. We have 150 seats available for this session.


What is required to join this event?

All event guests must present a valid registration from this website (Bag Event 百格活动)as well as a valid Tsinghua or Peking University ID Card when entering Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University for this event. 


Entering and Exiting Schwarzman College

Registered attendees may enter Schwarzman College 30 minutes before the session begins. For this session, doors open at 4:30 pm. No attendees will be admitted after 5:30 pm.

 

Following the conclusion of this event at 6:30 pm, Schwarzman College's status as a dormitory means we must ask that all attendees who join us for the session as event guests exit the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this policy.

    Oliver Jenkyn
    Group President, Visa / Board Member, Visa Foundation

    Oliver Jenkyn is Visa's Group President, Global Markets. Mr. Jenkyn is responsible for Visa's business in the 200+ countries and territories in which it operates around the globe. Visa is organized into five regions (North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America & Caribbean, and Central Europe, Middle East & Africa), each of which is led by a Regional President. These Regional Presidents report into Mr. Jenkyn, as do teams that lead Visa's global merchant relationships, global client relationships, global digital partnerships, and global deal negotiations.


    Mr. Jenkyn has been with Visa for 15 years. Prior to his current role, he was the President of North America, led Visa's global new businesses (commercial/B2B, government, and Visa Direct), and served as Global Head of Strategy and M&A.


    Prior to Visa, Mr. Jenkyn was a Partner at McKinsey & Company in the San Francisco, New York, and London offices, and a leader of the firm's banking practice and global payments practice. Mr. Jenkyn also led McKinsey's relationship with Visa for several years, playing an integral role in Visa's IPO.


    Mr. Jenkyn holds master's degrees in finance and financial policy from Harvard University and Queen's University, and a bachelor's degree in economics from McGill University. Mr. Jenkyn serves or has served on a variety of non-profit boards including Tipping Point (a San Francisco nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty) and the California Academy of Sciences.

    Former Vice Chairman, China Securities Regulatory Commission; Vice President, China Society for Finance and Banking

    Dr. Fang Xinghai is former Vice Chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). Before joining the CSRC, he was a Bureau Director at the Office of the Central Leading Group for Financial and Economic Affairs. Prior to that, he successively served as Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Financial Services Office, and Assistant President and Vice President of Shanghai Stock Exchange. Earlier in his career, he worked as Director of Group Coordination Office at China Construction Bank and Secretary-General of Management Committee of China Galaxy Securities.

     

    Dr. Fang holds a PhD and Master's degree in Economics from Stanford University and a Bachelor's degree from School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University.

    Dean, Schwarzman College

    Dr. Lan Xue is a Distinguished Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Tsinghua University, where he also serves as the Director of the Institute for AI International Governance, Director of the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy, and Co-Director of the Global Institute for SDGs. His teaching and research interests include global governance, crisis management, as well as science, technology, and innovation policy. From 2000 to 2018, he served as Associate Dean, Executive Associate Dean and Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University. Currently, he also serves as a Counsellor of the State Council, Co-convener of the Public Administration Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Chair of China's National Expert Committee on Next Generation AI governance, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology. He is an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University and a non-resident senior fellow of the Brookings Institution. He is a board member of the UN Sustainable Development Solution Network, and a member of the UN Committee of Experts on Public Administration and the inaugural Internet Governance Forum Leadership Panel.

     

    Dr. Xue is a recipient of the Distinguished Young Scholar Award from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Cheung Kong Chair Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, the Fudan Distinguished Contribution Award for Management Science, the Distinguished Contribution Award from Chinese Association for Science of Science and S&T Policy, and the Second National Award for Excellence in Innovation in China. He holds a PhD in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.
