We think we know that teaching English starts with the alphabet, so it is a shock to hear that is no longer so.
Teaching with phonics not only enables children to learn faster, but it also enables all children to succeed and enjoy doing so. Jolly Phonics has helped define good phonics teaching and continues to be seen as the most effective.
It all starts with the letter sounds, so more than just the alphabet. Some sounds need two letters to be written, sounds like sh, ng and ee.
The old ways taught that words need to be memorised, but with phonics that is no longer so. Children learn to ‘blend’ the letter sounds together, with d-o-g making ‘dog’. It means they can read words they have not seen before. Similarly, they learn to spell by segmenting out the sounds in a word. They work out that ‘dog’ is made of the three sounds d-o-g, which they can then write.
In the training, this teaching will be explained, with the stages and the memorable ways which Jolly Phonics provides. The training with be given in person by Clare Fulton, a Jolly Phonics Trainer from Scotland, with an initial overview by Christopher Jolly, the publisher.
Like teachers around the world who use the programme, you will be amazed at how well your children learn.
