This project develops an innovative solution for repairing oral and maxillofacial, alveolar, spinal, limb and cranial bone defects. It addresses the clinical limitations of conventional PMMA biomaterials, including poor osseointegration caused by bio-inertness, tissue thermal injury from polymerization heat, and cytotoxic residual monomers that hinder tissue regeneration. Adopting low-temperature radical polymerization technology, we developed a porous PMMA composite bone adhesive with degradable microspheres. It features low curing heat, minimal residual monomers and high biocompatibility, with bioactivity and controllable degradation to facilitate bone regeneration. Beyond stomatology and orthopedics, it has been applied to optic nerve repair prosthesis packaging and selected for China’s Innovation Task Bidding & Leading Program for Biomedical Materials (2nd Batch).
