Zheng Zhang, MBA ′05
Chairman, Lakeshore Capital
Mr. Zheng Zhang is responsible for Lakeshore Capital’s management and fundraising. Before Lakeshore, Mr.Zhang was the founding partner of Jade Capital and he founded Chang’an Capital, a leading independent Investment Bank. He used to work in GE both in China and US as well as HP China in the management positions.
He co-founded the first FOF in China, invested in famous PE/VC funds such as CDH, Hony, IDG and JD; he led DD for over 200 PE/VC funds, visited over 500 companies, interviewed thousands of partners and senior managements, and has formed profound understanding of the equity market in China. As Angel Investor, he invested over 20 companies, 6 already listed, among which Bluedon received a return of over 50 times.
Mr. Zhang obtained his BS in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School.
Wei Zhu, MBA ′92
Managing Director, Global Co-Head of Private Equity, Standard Chartered Bank
Mr. Zhu Wei is Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Private Equity at Standard Chartered Bank. He is also a member of the bank’s Executive Leadership Team and also sits on the board of a number of SCB invested companies.
Prior to joining SCB, Mr. Zhu was a senior managing director of CVC Asia Pacific and prior to that, served as a managing director at Goldman Sachs in investment banking. He also had a long standing career in management consulting and served as China head of A.T. Kearney and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. He has nearly 30 years of combined experiences in private equity, investment banking, management consulting and industrial management primarily in Greater China and Asia.
Mr. Zhu graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor degree in Foreign Service. He also received his MBA from the University of Chicago.
Wei Cai, MBA '95
MD, FountainVest Partners
Mr Wei CAI is currently a partner with FountainVest Partners, a private equity firm focusing on investment opportunities in Greater China region. The fund currently manages assets over US$4.6 billion.
Before joining FountainVest Partners in 2015, Wei was an investment banker for over 20 years in US and Asia. He was Vice Chairman of Asia Investment Banking and Co-head of China Investment Banking with UBS from 2010 to 2015, leading one of the top investment banking franchises in China. Before that, he was a Managing Director and Head of Asia General Industrials Group with Morgan Stanley.
Wei received his LLB degree from Fudan University in Shanghai, and his joint MBA/MA from Booth School of Business and Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.
Jeff Lin, MBA '92
Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, Country Garden
Jeff Lin is the Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Country Garden. Prior to joining Country Garden, Mr. Lin held senior executive positions in various international consultancies and corporations, including Boston Consulting Group, Booz Allen Hamilton, Roland Berger, OC&C Strategy Consultants and Strategic Bang Group. Prior to these, Mr. Lin was assistant brand manager at Procter &Gamble (USA and Taiwan).
Mr. Lin has more than 20 years of experience in investment and strategy consulting. He provided investment and strategy consulting services to more than twenty Forbes 500 corporations and a number of VC/PE funds. He focused on area including TMT, Finance, Healthcare, etc.
Mr. Lin graduated from the Department of Political Science, College of Law of National Taiwan University with a bachelor’s degree in law and University of Chicago with an MBA.
David T. Y. Chou, MBA ′97
Partner Managing Director, Goldman Sachs Co-Head, Asian Special Situations Group
Mr. Chou has over 22 years of experience in international finance and direct investment, including 17 years focused on the Asian market. He is currently overseeing Goldman Sachs’ direct investment effort in Greater China. In his current role, Mr. Chou has deployed capital covering asset classes spanning across private equities, structured financing (mezz loans/straight debt with equity upside), real estate development projects as well as non-performing loans acquisitions. Mr. Chou also sits on Global Special Situations Group’s Investment Committee and has a wide-ranging experience pertaining to Goldman’s global investment efforts.
Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2000, Mr. Chou worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch & Co., both in New York as well as in Hong Kong. At Merrill Lynch, Mr. Chou specialized in areas of mergers and acquisitions where he worked on numerous mergers including the landmark transaction between the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Futures Exchange in 1999. Prior to his tenure at Merrill Lynch, Mr. Chou started his career with Oracle Corporation in the US where he worked as a project leader at Oracle’s Professional Services Group from 1990 to 1994.
Mr. Chou holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, an MS in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College and a BS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester.
JP Gan, MBA ′99
Managing Partner, Qiming Venture Partners
Mr. Gan has been a Managing Partner and member of the investment committee of Qiming Venture Partners since 2006. Mr. Gan was ranked #30 globally by Forbes Magazine’s Midas List in 2017 and has been named a top ten venture capitalist in China by multiple magazines and institutions including the Forbes China, ChinaVenture, CBN Weekly several years in the row. His successful investments include Meitu Inc. (1357.HK), Ctrip.com International Limited (CTRP.Nasdaq, a director since 2001), Dianping.com (merged into China Internet Plus Holding), Jiayuan.com, Taomee, ATL and PPS Inc. (acquired by Baidu).
Previously, Mr. Gan spent five years at The Carlyle Group and was a Director and founding member of Carlyle’s Asian venture fund.
Mr. Gan obtained his BBA from the University of Iowa and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a member of the Chicago Booth’ Global Advisory Board.
