John Hattie, PhD, is an award-winning education researcher and best-selling author with nearly thirty years of experience examining what works best in student learning and achievement. His research, better known as Visible Learning, is a culmination of nearly thirty years synthesizing more than 2,100 meta-analyses comprising more than one hundred thousand studies involving over 300 million students around the world. He has presented and keynoted in over three hundred international conferences and has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to education. His notable publications include Visible Learning, Visible Learning for Teachers, Visible Learning and the Science of How We Learn; Visible Learning for Mathematics, Grades K-12; and 10 Mindframes for Visible Learning.
For the past decade, Sam has partnered with schools across Australia, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, developing the capacity of educators to have greater impact on student learning, and embedding evidence-based, system-wide improvement in schools. In her current role with Corwin, Sam designs and facilitates professional learning, and supports leaders and teachers as they implement high impact strategies in their schools. She values academic research and enjoys translating it into clear and accessible instructional practice, resulting in learning that is ‘visible’ to all. Sam is an accredited coach, she holds a master’s degree in Language and Literacy, and her career in education includes teaching and leadership positions in Australia, England, and Hong Kong. She has taught a range of curriculum including IB, A Levels and the Australian curriculum, written curriculum for a global audience and served as both examiner and school accreditor internationally.
