Chinese Language Teachers’ Literacy Workshop Series #2:
From Overwhelmed to Empowered: Transforming Chinese Teaching with AI

This presentation examines how AI-powered literacy instruction can be thoughtfully integrated into curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to support a paradigm shift toward Open Curriculum, Open Pedagogy, and Open Assessment in teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Participants will explore how AI tools can enhance students’ reading comprehension and writing fluency by aligning with curricular goals and fostering deeper engagement with texts. Through Task-based Learning and human–AI collaboration, pedagogy is reimagined to promote learner autonomy and personalized learning. The workshop provides practical strategies, clear implementation guidelines, and authentic student work samples to help educators adopt AI-enhanced instruction in a principled, pedagogically sound way—ultimately preparing learners to thrive in an open, AI-empowered educational future.
