The Ministry of Ecological Environment and 14 other government departments jointly released National Plan for Developing the Standards System for Responding to Climate Change. The plan aims to build a national climate standards system in key areas including greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement, verification, and monitoring, and GHG emissions reduction through carbon footprint accounting and market-based mechanisms.
Our take:
This marks another fundamental step to meet China’s 2030 carbon peaking targets. Most climate standards are expected to be finalized by then to support this goal. German businesses seeking to stay compliant with China’s climate regulations should familiarize themselves with this plan and observe the detailed standard updates.
